EWG applauds appointment of Jim Jones as FDA deputy commissioner

WASHINGTON Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf today announced that Jim Jones, a former long-serving Environmental Protection Agency chemical safety office leader, will be appointed the FDA’s deputy commissioner for human foods.

Scott Faber, the Environmental Working Group’s senior vice president for government affairs, issued the following statement:

EWG applauds Commissioner Califf for appointing Jim Jones as the FDA’s deputy commissioner for human foods.

As a member of the task force appointed to review the infant formula crisis, Jim has a deep understanding of the organizational and cultural challenges facing the FDA’s foods program.

As a longtime leader of the EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, Jim has the leadership skills needed to address those challenges. Jim Jones is the right leader at the right moment for the FDA.
