This map shows approximate locations of meat-processing facilities with COVID-19 outbreaks and the associated numbers of cases, as identified using a combination of news media articles and company statements. In some cases, there is no information available about outbreaks because of companies’ citing privacy concerns related to releasing numbers of COVID-19 cases. These outbreaks occurred between March 23 and May 6.
For each location, EWG applied a 15-mile radius, the average American commute, to identify counties and their confirmed cases of COVID-19, as defined by Johns Hopkins University on May 6, 2020, and total population, as recorded by the U.S. Census American Community Survey of 2019.
The transparent red circles surrounding each facility location show a 15-mile radius, and the red outlines show that some part of the county is within the zone. The basemap of colored counties on the map represent the percent of the total county population infected with COVID-19 as of May 6. Clicking on a point will bring up details about each plant where an outbreak was reported.
