This map shows county-level federal farm subsidy program payments between program year 2014 and 2020. Payments come from traditional commodity subsidy programs, including the Agricultural Risk Coverage program, or ARC, and the Price Loss Coverage program, or PLC, as well as ad hoc subsidy programs, including disaster payments, the Market Facilitation Program and the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.

Toggle the three different map layers to see counties light up based on ARC and PLC payments, ad hoc program payments or total payments across the two categories. Each county’s color is based on ARC and PLC, ad hoc or total farm subsidy program payments made from 2014 through 2020. Clicking on an individual county will provide the county’s name, along with a table of the county’s annual ARC and PLC and ad hoc program payments, and total payments across the programs. There is also a column in the table that shows total ARC and PLC and ad hoc program payments across all years.

ARC and PLC payments are provided for 2014 through 2019. Since payments are made starting in October of the year after the crop was grown, farmers have not yet received payments for the 2020 program year. The Market Facilitation Program made payments for 2018 and 2019 only, and though the CFAP program made payments in both 2020 and 2021, the map only includes payments through October 2020. Disaster payments are given for 2014 through 2020.

This map does not represent all government payments that have gone to farmers since 2014. Farmers also receive money through conservation programs and the crop insurance program, among many others, so this is not a complete picture of all federal government funding given to farmers.
